I can't believe. . .

. . . that this happened on my block. Just when you thought your neighborhood was free of losers, they show up.

I'm pretty surprised myself, as the Heights never came across to me as the type of nabe that that would happen in.

What kind of perplexes me, though, is many peoples' near insistence that it has to do with Mahmoud *spit* Ahmadinejad's appearance at Columbia, and in NY in general, yet -- keyn ayin hara -- I haven't heard of any anti-gay graffiti, or anti-woman graffiti, and yet...

Are these not things he also harbors great disdain for?

My opinion is that the media has a special place in its heart for swastikas, as that seems to be the most prevalent form of graffiti-related hate crime in the news, and with all the publicity anti-Jewish graffiti gets, people who have the sensitivity of a toenail fungus go out and make swastikas, I feel, to elicit reaction.

Someone commented on my blog a day or so ago that whoever does those things should be taken for a walk through Dachau, but something tells me, they still wouldn't get it. Human life, and its fragility, is something I don't believe is understood by, or comprehensible to the people who make hate symbols.

On that note, allow me to wish you a belated Shana Toyve, and continued health, happiness, and prosperity to you and your loved ones.
