I assume that the post is comparing the followers of Zvi to the followers of Obama. Both involved mass movements whose members were willing to follow him anywhere with a religious blindness in a way that they hadn't followed anyone else before. I think in both cases there was a perception, perhaps a true one, that things were just so bad that people just emotionally and perhaps irrationally followed someone, anyone, who promised hope, change and deliverance.

Both candidates promised change. One promised hope, and neither promised deliverance.
