The nature of today's army

What a great article. And true, I think. One thing, though, I've seen examples of rank snobbery that's a little gross. My husband was asked to attend a dinner party for foreign dignitaries at a general's home here on base. They wanted him to translate. It was volunteer. But of course he went, and he was happy to do it. But when the meal came, him and the other translators sat behind the guests on stools and were not offered food or drink. So he came home hungry and thirsty after translating for hours and watching all this food pass under his nose. I thought that was rude. But maybe it's just that one particular general. Overall, though, I'm very proud of the military for the fact that anyone with drive, smarts and ambition can go as far as they want to. It's an american dream thing.
