I always thought of Mozart's music as aloof and tinged with pomposity ... so clean and crystal clear ... music for the elitist masses.
Well, whatever flats yer boat.Ericahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12602144303531594094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3564064.post-1141135590313531792006-02-28T09:06:00.000-05:002006-02-28T09:06:00.000-05:00Got to tell ya, I wasn't all that impressed with M...Got to tell ya, I wasn't all that impressed with Maazel. His Mozart was not as . . ."mysterious" as I think it should have been.karlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13511491414073382506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3564064.post-1141047220318815732006-02-27T08:33:00.000-05:002006-02-27T08:33:00.000-05:00I haven't yet taken advantage of a concert conduct...I haven't yet taken advantage of a concert conducted by Lorin Maazel since he's been in New York. He's my absolute favorite. Most people will tell you that Bruno Walter is the greatest interpreter of Beethoven, him being German and all ... but Maazel, when he was with the Cleveland Orchestra, did the most regal interpretation of Beethoven's "Eroica" symphony imaginable. I'd really love to see him conduct sometime.
If I could make a recommendation, try to get the Cleveland Orchestra (conducted by George Szell at the time) doing Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto & Mozart's 25th Piano Concerto. Leon Fleischer is the pianist for both; the two were sold together on the same record (for whatever reason they do such things).Ericahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12602144303531594094noreply@blogger.com
